Images, how to use them + free image resources
What images can I use?
The image should in some way represent the subject matter of your submission, ie. it could either be a photo, illustration or composite image. It doesn't have to be explicit / accurate though and can be more vague. Ie. for a football game, it could be a photo of the tickets.
The actual image could either be a photo that you have taken yourself (ie. of a gig), or promotional material associated with the subject matter (ie. an image from the event's official Facebook page). All you need is permission from the original creator of the image to use it in the context of your article (pointing them to the ART31 site normally helps).
If you cant get an image directly relating to the submission, don't worry. There are plenty of high quality image resources out there where you can find a free-to-use image. See "Where can I get a good image from".
How do I get the image/page URL?
If you have a photo that you've taken yourself, you'll first need to upload this to https://imgsafe.org/. Follow the instructions on the homepage, and once uploaded you can click the thumbnail of the image to view it. Copy the URL from your browsers address bar and paste it in the "URL TO IMAGE WE CAN USE" field.
Alternatively, if you have found an image on a free-to-use photo library (ie. https://unsplash.com/) simply click the image until it is on it's own page, or expanded. Then copy the URL from your browsers address bar and paste it in the "URL TO IMAGE WE CAN USE" field.
Where can I get a good image from?
There are loads of really good free-to-use images out there. Some of these simply require you to credit the photographer in the body text of the article / event / opportunity. This can be a simple "Photo by John Smith" right at the end of your piece. Others don't require any credits. Just check the useage notes on the image you want to use.
